Open Projects ……….* and ……….* in contemporary visual communication * multiplicity, diversity, flexibility, connections, exchanges, relations. Chaumont, may–june 2010 An exhibition curated by Cristina Chiappini & Silvia Sfligiotti Open Projects collects 51 contemporary works, spanning from identity systems to typography to installations, that share a common approach: moving on from a corporate, controlled idea of design, they open a space for users to participate, for shapes to change and evolve, for tools to be adapted to context. The selected projects are examples of a flexible design, built within reality, through consideration and evaluation of differences, rather than imposed from above. Some of them take a political or social stance, others reflect about technology and the way it’s used; many welcome imperfections, mistakes and even chance, as a way to return life and vitality to an otherwise ever more flat and repetitive visual field. Open Projects raccoglie 51 lavori contemporanei, che spaziano dai sistemi di identità alla tipografia alle installazioni, e che hanno un approccio comune: allontanandosi da un’idea istituzionale e controllata del design, aprono spazi per la partecipazione degli utenti, per l’evoluzione delle forme, per l’adattamento degli strumenti al contesto. I progetti selezionati sono esempi di un design flessibile, non imposto dall’alto ma costruito nella realtà, tenendo conto delle differenze e valorizzandole. Alcuni di essi prendono una posizione sociale o politica, altri riflettono sulla tecnologia e sul modo in cui è usata; molti accolgono l’imperfezione, l’errore e il caso come modo per riportare vita e mutevolezza in un campo visivo che altrimenti tenderebbe all’appiattimento della perfezione ripetibile. Insieme, mostrano un atteggiamento che è presente e vitale nella realtà contemporanea.
